A Decomposed body of a 78-year-old woman of Zamtan Township in Kitwe has been discovered in a deep well by members of the public.

The old woman who is believed to have been missing for close to seven days was yesterday discovered but unfortunately was found in a decomposed state.

And Limaposa ward councilor Lackson Filongwe confirmed the development, stating that he is aware of the predicament and was involved Kitwe Central Police station.

Mr Filongwe said earlier he engaged Mopani Mining to help retrieve the body but unfortunately the mining firm backed out after discovering that the body had discomposed.

Mr Filongwe said he is currently brain storming with the public health officers on ways in which they can retrieve the body.

“I am ware and right now I am at the Central Police looking for alternatives of how we can retrieve the body from the well. I engaged Mopani and they said they have the pump but they are usually used for drinking water so that can’t use it, so I am talking to the public health if we can retrieve the body which has already decomposed,” he said.

And Copperbelt Province police commanding officer Sharon Zulu said her office has not yet received information.

She however said the public will be informed once information is available.
