Dec nabs 12 Chinese in Chipata for cultivation marijuana

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DCE) in Chipata has arrested 12 Chinese nationals for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 6.2 kilogram.


DEC Public Relation Officer Theresa Katongo has confirmed the development.

Ms Katongo identified the suspects as Ten Mao 46, a mechanic, Yu Riping 41, assistant manager, Qi Jianlong 44, a surveyor, Sun Shengzi 5, cook and Qiang Xuehua 51, a carpenter.

Others are Huang Hongbing 39, Jia Yinsheng 50, Kue Yunnai 51, all carpenters, while Tang Zhangechang 24, an engineer, Zhang Yijian 39, a mechanic, Xu Yihai 51 foreman and Chen Minqiang 28, a civil engineer.

She said it is believed that the suspects were into construction, based on their professions.

Ms Katongo said all the 12 suspects were expected to appear in court today.
