President Edgar Lungu has declared a day of national mourning for the eleven persons that died in a Royal Bus accident in Mokopane, Limpopo Province in South Africa earlier this week.
Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations, Mr Amos Chanda made the announcement.
Mr Chanda stated that President Lungu has tasked Secretary to Cabinet, Dr. Roland Msiska with the preparation of the declaration and that, the day of national mourning would be observed on the day of burial of the deceased.
President Lungu also sent a Zambia Airforce (ZAF) Plane plane to South Africa to transport the remains of the deceased to Ndola and Lusaka.
The bodies are expected on Sunday afternoon in Ndola and Lusaka.
Earlier President Lungu mourned the death of the eleven people.
President Lungu Wrote;
“I am deeply saddened at the death of eleven people following a fatal Road Accident in Mokopane, Limpopo Province in South Africa on Monday 17th September 2018”
“The accident involved Royal Bus Service which was traveling from Kitwe to Johannesburg, when it suffered a tyre burst and lost control.”
“We are happy that the Zambian Mission in Pretoria, the Zambia Airforce (ZAF) and the South African Government have coordinated well in efforts to care for those injured and still admitted to hospital along with those that will be repatriated on Sunday 23rd September 2018 to Ndola and Lusaka.”
“On behalf of the government and the nation at large, let me convey our sincere condolences to the bereaved families and wish those injured, a quick recovery.”
“May God lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.”
