A-78-year-old cyclist of Kitwe has died in a fatal road traffic accident after hitting on a pedestrian crossing the road, fell off his bicycle and crashed on the tarmac.
The victim only identified as Simwaba sustained multiple fatal injuries and died on the spot.
Copperbelt Police Commissioner Elias Chushi said that the accident happened when Simwaba was cycling from East to West direction and in the process hit a pedestrian who was crossing the road from South to North direction and fell off the cycle and crashed on the tarmac.
Mr Chushi said involved was Simwaba a Cyclist of Ndeke Presidential Road Area, who was cycling a Gents bicycle and Sera Mwansa 14, of House No MS 1121 Mulenga Township who sustained multiple body injuries and is admitted to Kitwe Teaching Hospital.
He said this occurred on April 28, 2021 at 10:30 hrs along Presidential Road, Ndeke.
Mr Chushi said the body of the victim is in Kitwe Teaching Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem and burial.
