Criminal fire gun, injures 5 people

Five people have been injured after unknown criminal fired gun shots in Kamwala.

Police in Lusaka have since recorded a report of aggravated Robbery and shooting incident which occurred on Thursday at around 21:30hrs at TT liquor store Kamwala.

Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said Beata Nyiraneza 39, of Lilayi area a Rwandese reported that two unknown men armed with an unknown type of firearm and a machete attacked.

Mr Hamoonga said the attackers robbed Ms Nyiraneza of a handbag valued at K400 which contained an undisclosed amount of money and various personal belongings.

“Brief facts are that Ms Nyiraneza closed her shop early to observe the performance of the alarm after she was informed that the alarm had malfunctioned the previous night. As she was closing the shop the alarm immediately went off, then the victim decided to call arm secure to report the faulty alarm system, as she was on phone, two unknown men  emerged on foot armed with a firearm and a machete,” he said.

Mr Hamoonga said one of the criminals pointed a firearm at her and ordered her to surrender her phone and handbag.

“As the two criminals were leaving the scene the onlookers started shouting “thief” this caused the criminal armed with a firearm to start shooting at random, ”he said.

The injured are identified as Mailess Ngoma 52 of the neighboring shop of Kamwala South who was shot on her left leg, Kunda Lubaya 63, of Asa farm was shot on the right arm, Samson Zulu 25, of Chawama compound was shot on the left thigh, Sunday Chawe 41, of Kamwala south was shot on his left pelvis and Henry Phiri 26, also of Kamwala south was shot on the bladder.

The police Spokesperson said all the victims are admitted at UTH and receiving medical attention.

Mr Hamoobgs said that one live ammunition and four empty cartridges for AK-47 rifle were picked from the scene of crime.

He said that Police have since started investigating the matter.
