Police in Chalimbana have arrested a couple in connection with the Offence of Child Stealing.
Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo said the mother of the child reported that her six year-old child has gone missing on October 27 2020 in Palabana area.
Ms Katongo said that the child was picked by an unknown woman who the mother was able to identify.
She said investigations were launched and on 25th November , 2020 Police received information that the suspect had been spotted at some farm along great East road.
Ms Katongo said members of the public were about to descend on the suspect but the police quickly intervened .
She said after interrogations the suspect led officers to Chipata Compound where her husband was also apprehended and later led to Chadleigh along Magoye road where the child was later found.
“We have withheld the names of the suspect for security reasons but she is of Lusaka’s Chipata Compound. The child has since been reunited with his family. Investigations are still ongoing,” she said.
Ms Katongo said the two suspects are detained in police custody for the offence of Child Stealing awaiting Court appearance.
She said Zambia Police are advising guardians and parents to be security cautious by monitoring the whereabouts of their children and they should not allow their children to move unaccompanied.
Ms Katongo said in instances where members of the public suspect their children to be missing, they should quickly report to any nearest police.
