Counterfeit Kiwi polish seized in Chinika

The Police Intellectual Property Unit has seized 227 boxes of 12x 6 pieces of suspected counterfeit Inecto Super Black and 194 boxes of 12 x 12 40 mls of suspected counterfeit Kiwi Polish in Chinika Industrial area.

The seized properties is worth at an estimated value of K102, 000.00 and K120, 000.00 respectively

Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo said an operation in Chinika area was carried out following a complaint from the Managing Director of Hair Credentials Zambia Limited, Rakesh Sharma and the Director of Lonat Security Agency, Daniel Chisanga a local representative of SC Johnson Company.

Ms Katongo said the duo complained against high levels of counterfeit Inecto Super black and Kiwi shoe polish on the Zambian market.

She said Police have also arrested a suspect, Pascal Nibizi, 41 of Lusaka’s Makeni area, a Burundi national, trading under the name NIBIZI General trading and Construction Limited.

Ms Katongo said the suspect has been jointly charged and arrested with other unknown persons for the following offences: Make, import or have in possession any coverings, labels, reels or any reproduction, replicas or representation of trade Mark or a mark so nearly resembling a trade mark as to be likely to deceive for the purpose of applying them to goods contrary to section 5 (1) (g) of the Merchandise Mark Act Cap 405 of the Laws of Zambia.

Others are Sale of goods to which any trademark or a mark so resembling a trade mark as to be likely to deceive is falsely applied which is contrary to section 6 (1) (b) of the Merchandise Marks Act Cap 405 of the Laws of Zambia.

She said the suspect is on police bond and will appear in court soon. Investigations are still going on to locate the remaining suspects.
