The private sector in Luanhya has pledged to partner with the Local Authority to come up with various strategies aimed at changing the face of Luanshya through supporting various development projects.
The private sector said this when Luanshya Mayor Charles Mulenga hosted a special Development Consultative Meeting, which attracted leading privately owned manufacturing companies and business houses.
Speaking during the Council Private Sector Consultative Meeting, the City Father said the Mayoral Office was undertaking an evaluation of stakeholders’ role in the development of the mining town through hosting the meeting.
“We want to come up with a common approach to development which needs to be aligned to the UPND government policies,” he said.
Mr Mulenga said that the Council wanted to use the consultative meetings with stakeholders to have an input and validation of the people’s expectation as far as developing Luanshya was concerned.
He said these consultative meetings will share idea strategies, assess the capacity requirements for its implementation, agree on monitoring tools, and produce key elements for harmonization of development.
Mr Mulenga expressed optimism that development consultative meeting would help the Council draw up an action plan for the implementation a robust development agenda for Luanshya.
And Acting Town Clerk Field Sikanyika and Luanshya Municipal Director of Engineering Services Steven Mwanza also attended the consultative meeting chaired by the Mayor in the Council chamber.
The meeting also resulted in some companies pledging to contribute funds aimed at supporting the rehabilitation of Fifteenth Street, which passes through Luanshya’s the Central Business District (CBD) connecting Buntungwa Road from the Zanaco building to the H Figov road traffic-circle .
The key private sector players, who were led by the Mayor Mulenga to have an on the spot check on the state of the roads pledged a total of One K150, 000.00 towards the facelift of Fifteenth Street.
Mr Charles Kabamba, from Chovu Chovu Holdings pledged One Hundred Thousand kwacha (K100, 000.00) and Mr Robert Ngowani from Rongo Rongo General Dealers and its sister Company Chipese Building and Contractors pledged Fifty Thousand Kwacha (K50, 000.00) towards the rehabilitation of the road which has been a source of concern to some residents.
The private sector players who have come up with a joint Consultative Development Committee with the Council have pledged to make more donations towards the roads rehabilitation initiative.
