Acting Copperbelt Province Permanent Secretary Robert Zulu has directed all councils in the region to follow to elements of disaster risk reduction to help prevent waterborne diseases that come with the rainy season.
Speaking on behalf of Dr Zulu in a speech at flag off of unblocking drainages across the province, DMMU Copperbelt regional Coordinator George Akalemwa said the directive entails that councils should ensure communities adapt to capacities which work towards the reduction of disasters in communities.
Dr Zulu said he expects the works to commence immediately as the program is aimed at risk reduction towards potential disasters.
And Ndola Deputy Mayor Lackson Chisenga called on residents to take full ownership of the program by ensuring that they do not throw garbage in drainages.
Mr Chisenga who is also Chipulukusu ward councillor emphasized on the need for residents to participate in the unblocking of drainages.
