Copperbelt Province Minister Elisha Matambo has refuted circulating social media claims suggesting the retrieval of a body at the Sensele dump site, where miners remain trapped.
Mr Matambo, who has been actively overseeing the rescue efforts since day one, urged the public to disregard these unverified reports, emphasizing that as of 18:30, no bodies had been recovered.
In a press briefing at the site, Mr Matambo assured the public that the rescue mission was making significant headway. “No bodies have been retrieved, and our dedicated rescue operators are tirelessly working to ensure the safe retrieval of the miners,” he affirmed.
Highlighting the commitment to intensify rescue operations, Matambo disclosed that an additional 11 excavators had been dispatched to the site. This strategic move aims to expedite the ongoing efforts to reach and rescue the trapped miners.
And mines Minister Paul Kabuswe disclosed that 27 families had already submitted details of their trapped loved ones to the secretariat.
He further appealed to families who suspect their miners may be trapped to promptly provide relevant information to the secretariat, ensuring a comprehensive and coordinated rescue response.
The Senseli dump site incident has brought the community together, with authorities working tirelessly to reunite families with their loved ones. The Minister’s call for accurate information and the deployment of additional resources underscores the gravity of the situation and the collective determination to ensure a successful rescue mission at Sensele.
