Copperbelt is desolate, economically sick-Musumali

By ALICE NACHILEMBE
Socialist Party General Secretary Cosmas Musumali has said that the
 Copperbelt province is economically sick.

And Dr Musomali says said the masses of people on the Copperbelt are angry, disappointed and dejected.

Speaking yesterday at a press briefing in Kitwe at the Socialist party Provincial office, Dr Musumali said the  macroeconomic situation of the Province is deteriorating day by day.

He said the economy of the country is not balancing in terms of external trade, revenue and expenditure.

“Zambia has started paying external debts and as it is paying this recklessly acquired debts other obligations are not addressed at the right time. The people in power are not affected but for the ordinary worker who has a delayed salary for three days will feel the pinch.

“Those in leadership have no vision on how to come out of this mess but we have given advice for them to stop and check what they are doing to get their books right. We cannot  be living on debts. We need to renegotiate the debts that we have today, it can be restructured,” he said.

Dr Musumali said the other problem is over spending some unnecessary costs that can be cut off where necessary.

He said there is chaos in the way affairs of the country are being run, without  professionalism.

“Institutions such as the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) that are supposed to help generate funds have become tools for punishing those with deviated ideas. The enemy of the Zambian people in terms of the economy and politics is the system and not the ruling government.

“Changing government will not change anything as long as the system is the same it will not deliver to the Zambian people. The system  creating inequity, injustice and is violent in nature is what majority of Zambian politicians adhere to. As long as this system based on individualism and greed is intact then change of Government is not a solution for the masses.

“We can’t have an equitable socialite where they is no honest, humility and solidarity, we are   fighting for socialism and equity. We are fed up with this system of inequity and corruption.

It is no longer One Zambia, One nation but One Zambia two nations the rich and the power live in two nations. The rich controls the economy, we live in an economy that doesn’t create jobs any more even those with jobs are insecure because they can be fired any time,” he said

Meanwhile Dr Musumali said his party would not join the opposition alliance because it is aimed at fighting the ruling Patriotic Front instead of offering solutions to the people’s sufferings.

He said the Opposition Alliance is a capitalist entity which has no solutions to unemployment and poverty.
