Concentrate on growing GDP Govt urged

By Staff Writer
Chingola Youth Activist Arthur Teleshi says that Government should concentrate on growing the Gross Domestic product (GDP) rather than concentrating on reducing inflation.

He said growing the GDP is possible through subsidizing production in agriculture, mining, tourism, sports and arts, value addition to the natural resources and agricultural produce.

Mr Teleshi said this will earn the nation much needed forex through exports of the surplus products.

“This way the Kwacha will gain and we’ll have enough purchase power to cushion the high cost of fuel and commodities. Let us produce enough food and we’ll have fewer patients in hospitals,” he said.

Mr Teleshi said that what is needed are agro processing technicians, fish farmers, manufacturing engineers, tourism marketers.

He said that the massive recruitment will sink us; already the wage bill is over the roof and increasing it by employing 41,200 civil servants at a goal and offer free education is suicide.

“First revamp and grow the economy then employment of our brothers and sisters can be done in phases, Teachers and Health workers are a recurring expense to the Treasury, and some sector of the economy has to make that money to settle this expense, that’s where the priority should be right now,” he said.
