Local Government Minister Charles Banda has commended Solwezi Municipal Council for introducing clocking system.
Dr Banda said Solwezi Council should also be applauded for being the only Council in the country that had introduced a biometric system of clocking in and out for members of staff.
He said such innovation and prudent resource management deserve to be emulated by Solwezi Council.
The Minister was speaking when he paid a courtesy call on the Mayor Nicholas Mukumbi who was represented by the Deputy Mayor Bernard Sokotela.
He said clocking system helps in productivity and prevent the laissez-faire approach to work.
He said Solwezi Municipal Council was the only Council that he had visited so far in the country which was up to date with payment of salaries to its workers and with statutory obligations.
Dr Banda commended the Council for prudently utilization of public funds for the implementation of projects on behalf of the Solwezi Community such as construction of maternity wings and schools.
He called on all Councils in the country to be innovative in the running of their day to day operations, just like Solwezi Municipal Council had demonstrated and set a precedence.
Mr Mukumbi appealed to the Minister to ensure that the 20.5 kilometres of Township roads project is implemented because the roads in the district were in a deplorable state.
In response Dr Banda said the Township roads in Solwezi are earmarked for funding and once funds are released, the project will commence.
