Church plays critical role in nation building, healing-HH

President Hakainde Hichilema has called on the church to continue praying for the nation as Government depends on the church on matters of national building and healing.

Speaking in Chingola yesterday at Life Cathedral when he met the Clergy, President Hichilema said Government recognizes the critical role the church plays in uniting the nation.

The president expressed gratitude toward the initiative of the clergy from Chingola, Chililabombwe Ministers fellowship to meet him.

He said that it is important for the church to be in the forefront to stand in the gap and pray for the wellbeing of the country and all sectors of the government to prosper.

President Hichilema said Government will work closely with the church so that the country can prosper.

“It is Government’s job is to serve the communities in a dignified manner. We are here to serve, we are your servants, we are here to listen to work in partnership and give service to the people so we are all stake holder.

He said in the previous regime, the church was operating in a difficult environment but the new dawn Government wants the church to operate independently.

Mr Hachilema said those days should remind us to appreciate the environment been enjoyed now so that they are no returning back to such days.

He said meeting in this church again in such a peaceful atmosphere and hearing the messages around the mining sector and warfare of the people of Chingola of the Copperbelt is enough message to say the country is moving forward.

“We hope for a continued dialogue and response to the issues affecting the people on the Copperbelt in the next meeting,” he said.

He said with many years spend seeking public office as he moved to every corners of Zambia he learnt something he will use to run the country better as he understand the needs of the people of Copperbelt.

He said the church is a good communicator hence the government to emulate the church so that they is good communication flow.

And Chililabombwe Ministers Fellowship Chairperson Pastor Emmanuel Mundia has implored the president that Government should bring an equity partner at Konkola Copper Mines (KCM).

He said the impasse at KCM and Mopani should be resolved quickly as there is poverty and hunger in Chingola and Chililabombwe.

And speaking earlier Reverend John Lumbwe said the clergy will support and work together with the Government on the Copperbelt.
