Copperbelt Minister Elisha Matambo says that government recognizes the role of the church in national development hence the need to work together.

Mr Matambo said the role of the church in Zambia cannot be over emphasized as the church is a sanctuary for human beings.

He said this in a speech read on his behalf by Chingola District commissioner Raphael Chimupi at Evangelical Church in Zambia during a special fundraising Sunday for the extension of the Nchanga Congregation Evangelical Church building.

Mr Matambo said that the Church should at all times have a limited number of space or rooms to accommodate people.

Meanwhile the Copperbelt Minister pledged 50 pockets of cement toward the extension of the church building, while Chingola DC Raphael Chimupi pledged 10 pockets, Chingola Mayor Johnson Kang’ombe pledged 25 pockets, while four Councillor’s from Nchanga ward Chingola Central ward, Buntungwa ward and Chiwempala ward pledged 50 pockets respectively.

Mr Matambo said Zambia’s population has increased and is still increasing hence the need to take into account the expansion of the church.

And Chingola Mayor Johnson Kang’ombe encouraged the church to apply for Constituency Development Fund (CDF) as churches are also qualified to do so.

The Evangelical Church Nchanga Congregation Reverend Moses Mwanza called on the congregation to give wholeheartedly.

Rev Mwanza said in a sermon which was titled ‘The people brings their offerings’ from Exodus 35:20-21 encouraged the congregation not to run away from giving.
