The college of bishops of the Christian coalition in Zambia has commended government for actualizing the initiative of a debt swap for civil servants.
The Coalition’s President Charles Mwape has also appealed to government to extend the debt swaps to other government workers having difficulties dealing with debt.
Professor Mwape says swapping of debt sustains the economy and helps in development.
“I wish to appeal to civil servants to desist from listening from politicians that are always politicking and politicizing as their politics are petty and their aim is to condemn government’s works,” he said.
Professor Mwape said that in as much as the initiative as come at the time when the country is voting, the intention is well thought after.
He adds that therefore, politicking the debt swap for the sake of a vote is unfortunate as the initiative met to address the challenges civil servants have been facing in terms of debt accumulated.
“We believe that civil servants will see beyond the petty politics that the debt swap is for their good, the coalition is hopeful that the initiative be seen as an income booster,” he said.
