The inferno that swept through the six shops started around 01:00 hours and was quenched by the Chingola Municipal Council fire fighters.

However, one of the fire fighters broke his leg in the process of putting down the fire and has been evacuated to Kitwe Central hospital for treatment.

Tuisunge co-owner Georgina Mwisa said she was shocked with the inferno because everything was left intact.

Ms Mwisa said she was only called around 01:00 hours to be told of the fire at the complex.

The cause of the inferno has not yet been established though it is suspected to an electric fault as there was no power at the time the shops were closed.

Chingola Council Public Relations Officer Given Masambika said the quick action of Council brigade team responded in time thereby preventing fire from spreading.

Mr Masambika said the fire fighters arrived at the scene around 01:30.

The shops are located along Chikombe road.

Saidi Shaibu one of the affected shop owners said he was left in shock with inferno.
