A 23-year-old woman has tragically died after being stabbed by her boyfriend in Chingola, according to a statement from the Copperbelt Police.
On June 15, 2024, around 20:45 hours, Mubanga Kangwa was at home with her family when her boyfriend, King Katanga, visited. The couple left the house together with the intention of Katanga returning home. During this time, an argument ensued, leading to Katanga allegedly stabbing Kangwa.
Neighbors, alerted by her cries for help, found Kangwa on the ground with cuts on both hands, her left leg, and multiple deep cuts on her stomach, causing her intestines to protrude. She was rushed to Kabundi Clinic and later referred to Nchanga North General Hospital, where she was admitted.
Copperbelt Police Commissioner Peacewell Mweemba confirmed the incident, noting that a neighbor reported the matter to Kabundi Police Post. Officers who responded found Kangwa with severe injuries from what appeared to be a sharp instrument.
Kangwa was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit but unfortunately died from her injuries on June 17, 2024, at around 03:30 hours. The incident was reported to Kabundi Police Post, leading to the opening of a case docket and the launch of an investigation.
The suspect, King Katanga, who had been on the run, was apprehended on June 17, 2024, at around 09:00 hours and is currently detained at Nchanga Police Station.
“A docket of the case was opened, and investigations were instituted into the matter. The suspect has since been detained for the offense,” Commissioner Mweemba said.
