Chingola wife killer arrested

By ALICE NACHILEMBE
Police in Chingola have arrested a violent husband of Chingayo Township for allegedly beating his wife to death.

Brian Kasongo 31, has been on police record of perpetuating gender based violence on his wife Helen Kunda 32.

Several times Helen had been to Lulamba Police reporting her husband over GBV.

And on Wednesday, February 19, this week he again battered his wife to death and left to go and do piece works.

At the place where he was doing the piece work he met with the father of Helen but never mentioned that his daughter was dead.

Shockingly, after knocking off he went straight to his mother in-law to tell her that Helen their daughter was not feeling well.

Yet, the same Kasongo went to Lulamba Police and reported that his wife was dead.

At the police, the officers were spot on, telling him off that he had finally killed his wife after comparing the GBV reports made by Helen.

Copperbelt Police Commissioner Charity Katanga has confirmed the death of Helen to The Independent Observer in an interview.

Ms Katanga said Helen is suspected to have died after been beaten by the husband after a marital dispute.

She said Helen had sustained a cut inside her right ear and bled from the nose.

“She also had yellowish substance coming out from her nose. The incident occurred on February 19 at 14:00 hours at house no. 37 Chiyago Township.

“The body is at Nchanga North General hospital awaiting postmortem. The husband has been arrested and will be charged with murder,” she said.
