Chingola Secondary School has won the National Water Supply and Sanitation Council (NWASCO) inter schools quiz.
The Battle of the brains pitted four schools with two coming from Chingola, one from Mufulira and another from Chililabombwe at to complete the provincial level.
The sanitation and water school quiz is the initiative of the water regulator NWASCO which spearheads the quiz but the water utilities fund the project.
In this battle, the schools for Mulonga Water were drawn from three towns Mufulira, Chingola and Chililabombwe which are serviced by Mulonga Water.
Ipusukilo of Mufurila came second, followed by Chililabombwe and Maiteneke secondary schools respectively.
Speaking at the NWASCO Provincial interschool quiz in Chingola Mulonga Water Chililabombwe Division Manager Jeff Mulenga said the focus for water utility companies is to bring awareness to the pupils on water and sanitation.
Mr Mulenga said pupils should take keen interest on issues of water and sanitation programs.
He urged the winners to represent Mulonga Water well because Mulonga was awarded as the best water utility in Zambia.
Chingola District Education Board Secretary Christopher Nyungila commended Mulonga for the initiative to sharpen the minds of the pupils to be well informed.
Mr Nyungila said effective learning begins with everyone and government is paying attention to education development so that no one is left behind that why they have reduced school fees.
He said the government wants to improve the education standard hence introduction of literacy classes for everyone even in markets.
And NWASCO Public Relations Manager Mpunga Samukwai said the water body wants to create alertness on water and the importance of water and sanitation issues hence countrywide School quiz.
