Chingola Press Club has registered its Club in order to meet the needs of Journalists in the district who are growing in numbers.
The Press Club has been registered under the Registrar of Societies in Zambia.
Chingola Press Club General Secretary Namutenga Sakaila said that the number of media houses in Chingola has increased compared to those days.
Ms Sakapila said in old days, the Town only had media bureaus for Zambia Daily Mail, Times of Zambia and defunct Post Newspapers which equally had single marketing staff.
She said recently, Chingola has four Radio stations namely: Iwave, Kokoliko, Rise and Shekinah FM plus The Independent Observer which is a registered online newspaper and Zambia News Information Services (ZANIS).
Ms Sakaila said with the growth in the number of media houses, it is imperative for the Press Club to be born to uphold media ethics, professionalism and integrity.
She said the Journalism practice is to inform, educate and raise awareness on issues which affect society through print and broadcast materials as well as through public forums.
“The entity will promote media freedom as well as free flow of information and ideas between and among members of the public in Chingola and Copperbelt. It will help in accountability and transparency by fostering public dialogue on critical national and international issues that impinge on national development.
“We will lobby for greater press freedom by ensuring it helps Journalists to maintain professional ethics, remaining impartial, balanced in coverage and factual among other tenets of Journalism,” he said.
The Press Club’s membership is open to Journalists and Communications Specialists.
