Chingola MP mourns with hacked family

Chingola Member of Parliament Matthew Nkhuwa says death of Ruth Chongwe has left him devastated.

Ms Chongwe died on December 30, 2019 after she was fatally hacked by machetes-wielding gang that also hacked five other members of her family but they survived.

Speaking when he provided K2, 000 cash to the bereaved family for the purchase of a casket, Mr Nkhuwa said death of Ms Chongwe has left everyone in Chingola living in fear.

Mr Nkhuwa also provided food stuffs among them bags of mealie meal, containers of cooking oil, chickens, vegetables and charcoal at the funeral house worthy K1, 500.

He also rehearsed with Chingola Mayor Titus Tembo so that the Council can provide a free burial site at Town centre cemetery.

Mr Nkhuwa who made the donation through Matty Investments Operations Manager Arthur Kanja said tomorrow he would will dash to Chingola to visit the bereaved family in person.

He will also meet the police command to listen to the challenges they could be facing in their operations to curb the suspected ritual hacking.

Mr Nkhuwa who is also Energy Minister will provide Hearse for transportation of the body to the resting place of Ms Chongwe.

Irraddy Chongwe who thanked Mr Nkhuwa for the gesture, also lobbied to meet the MP in person and he got yes as answer.

Mr Chongwe said his reason to meet the Member of Parliament will be to suggest the incorporation of the community in the policing of the area.

He said the police appear compromised, hence the need to loop in the community so that they offer a hand to curb the reckless hacking happening in Chikola loop area.

Ms Chongwe 22, of Plot No.6010 Chikola Loop areas sustained two deep cuts on the forehead and died on the spot.

Her husband Levision Chongwe 32, and their four children, Natasha Chongwe 12, Moise Chongwe 5, Bongani Chongwe 5 and Manase Chongwe 4 were hacked and left seriously injured.
