From humble beginnings in Chingola’s Kasompe Township, Mayor Johnson Kang’ombe embodies the resilience and spirit of his community.

Born in 1977, Kang’ombe’s upbringing in the Township, affectionately nicknamed Nigeria, instilled in him a deep sense of pride and determination. Raised in a family of seven, facing numerous challenges, he persevered, working tirelessly to carve out a better future for himself and his community.

Educated at Kasompe Primary School and Chingola Secondary School, Kang’ombe laid the foundation for his academic pursuits. Graduating with grade 12 certificates, he set the stage for his future endeavors.

Passionate about Hospitality, Kang’ombe pursued studies in Hotel Management and General Hospitality at Chingola Skills and ZipZip College. His dedication and hard work at Protea Hotel, where he climbed from porter to Food and Beverage Assistant Manager, marked eight years of distinguished service. Subsequently managing MMS and Star Barks, he later ventured into entrepreneurship with Tuvwangane Food Center and Catering Services in Chililabombwe.

Despite entrepreneurial challenges, Kang’ombe’s unwavering focus ensured the success of his ventures. Even as a self-employed entrepreneur, he continued contributing to the hospitality industry, working at Bolladale, now Sky View Lodge.

A Christian and pastor of Mount Camel Church, Kang’ombe holds a degree in theology from Faith Life Christian Ministry. Emphasizing the importance of belief and prayer, he advocates for continuous learning, currently pursuing a degree in Development Studies at Eden University.

Entering politics in 2016 with the UPND, Kang’ombe served as Councillor for Kasompe Ward from 2016 to 2021, earning recognition for his dedication. His belief in godly leadership guided him throughout his political journey.

In 2021, Kang’ombe’s commitment to public service led to his selection as the UPND Mayoral candidate for Chingola, culminating in a landslide victory on August 12. With a vision for transforming Chingola, he champions an open-door policy, emphasizing inclusive governance.

Guided by Christian principles, dedication, and hard work, Mayor Kang’ombe is focused on serving the people of Chingola. His leadership has garnered the respect and admiration of his constituents, and he remains committed to fulfilling their entrusted mandate.

Beyond politics, Kang’ombe, a Chelsea and Nchanga Ranges supporter, is a former footballer who played for Kasompe Leopards, City of Lusaka FC, and United Machinery. He also embraces farming, inspired by his parents who instilled the farming spirit in him as a child.
