Chingola new District Commissioner Agness Tonga has called on the women in the district to be united and speak one voice and be part of development.

Ms Tonga told the women to live with one another in peace and be the driving force of the economy as government is putting women in key positions.

She said gender equity is a right linked to sustainable development to achieve a society where all women and men enjoy same opportunities and responsibilities in all.

The DC said Government’s vision is to have a Zambia free from gender inequalities.

Ms Tonga said this year’s theme ‘I am generation equality’ draws the country to the importance of driving the gender equality agenda across all generations.

She said government is making progress toward gender equality though it has not been without challenge.

The DC said the President has directed the ministry of Gender to work with various stakeholders in finding a solution to this problem.

And Chingola Deputy Mayor Kennedy Simpasa said Government has made improvement on gender equality in the country.

Mr Simpasa said the equality can be evidenced by the continuous appointment of many women in leadership positions.

He said women play an important role in the upbringing of the children and maintaining homes.
