Chingola Council close down over 40 shops in Buyantanshi

By Staff Writer
Chingola Municipal Council (CMC) through the department of Public Health has closed down 40 shops that have not subscribed to the franchise companies contracted by the Local Authority to carry out garbage collection in Buyantanshi Township.

CMC Public Relations Officer Believe Chisanga said the Public Health Inspectors who worked in conjunction with the Council Police Officers managed to close down over 40 shops for non-compliance.

Ms Chisanga said it was discovered that some shop owners have been dumping garbage indiscriminately contrary to the Solid Waste Regulation and Management Act.

She said the shop owners that have not subscribed to Nepotech, a company engaged to collect waste in Buyantashi are making it difficult for Council to manage solid waste.

Ms Chisanga said the Local Authority is hereby sounding a strong warning to business owners who have not subscribed to their franchise companies to kindly do so to avoid being prosecuted.

“The council is further appealing to members of the public to report whoever they find dumping waste in undesignated places,” she said.
