The Chingola Municipal Council has recommended for the immediate cancellation of a title deed issued to Mapalo Quarries a private developer who acquired 95 hectares of Land in Luano Kapisha area.
This is because the land in question houses a Government Mini Hospital, Police post and over one thousand households.
Chingola Mayor Johnson Kang’ombe said the local authority has written to the Ministry of Lands to cancel the title deed for Mapalo quarries to protect public property and the residents.
He said according to the council records, the investor was only given 5 hectares but wondered how he got the 95 hectares land.
Mr Kang’ombe says the local authority will not allow the displacement of residents as well as the demolition of government property which are servicing the residents of Luano Kapisha.
And the residents have welcomed the news as the two government properties are helping to deliver health and other social services to the communities.
Meanwhile, Cecilia Kabungo a resident of Luano Kapisha said the Mini Hospital is the nearest health facility for people in the area.
