Chingola cop jailed for 6yrs

The Chingola Magistrate court has sentenced a-29- year-old Police Officer of Chingola to six-year imprisonment with hard labour for stealing an AK47 assault rifle valued at K105, 995.00.

Appearing before Magistrate Stephan Maona was Haggi Namauna who was facing one count of theft by a public servant.

Particulars of the offence are that on dates unknown but between March, 2019 and August 2019, Namauna stole an AK47 assault rifle contrary to the laws of Zambia.

In passing Judgment Magistrate Maona sentenced Namauna to six years imprisonment with hard labor citing that the state has proved beyond reasonable doubt that he had intention of stealing and selling the gun.

He said the fact that he removed the serial number of the gun shows that he had intention of selling it.

This saves as a warning to other officers who are in the habit of abusing their authorities that the law will take its course.

Namauna is also facing a charge of abduction in another court before Magistrate Shadrick Chanda.
