Chingola bus drivers protest again

By ALICE NACHILEMBE

Today people woke up to a shock as Chingola bus drivers have parked vehicles demanding for a Kitwe station in town.

The bus stations are empty as all bus drivers are protesting in the district.

Chingola District Bus Drivers Association secretary Rafael Mwansa told the Independent Observer that the council should bring Kitwe bus station in town.

He also said that they are against the council to take over the revenue that is collected in the station.

“That money that we leave in the station help in the station why does the council want to start collecting the money when they don’t do anything in the station,” he said.

He said the drivers last year made a request to the council but due to cholera they were told to wait.

“Last month the drivers had a meeting with the council because they were told that they made resolution every 6 months so they wanted to be included but it didn’t yield a positive response,” he said.

Mr Mwansa said that the buses pay to the council as required and bring the station in town will boost business for both the council and the drivers.

He said the council are saying that they have no place for a station in town but the drivers have a place where they can be located.

We want the Mayor to sit down and do something about our request because business is in town.
