Chilimbana warns fraudsters

Chalimbana University has expressed concerns over the continuous attempts by some members of the public masquerading and impersonating as university staff.

The University’s Acting Assistant Public Relations and Communications Manager Febby Banda said in a statement that the unscrupulous people are phoning students especially applicants awaiting admission informing them that they have been awarded scholarships on condition that they send a certain amount to a given number.

“Some students unfortunately have fallen victims to these scams and lost some money. We therefore wish to inform the general public, students and all prospecting applicants that Chalimbana University does not award scholarships in its single capacity and that all scholarships in higher learning institutions are awarded by the loans board who are responsible for awarding all scholarships on behalf of the Government of the republic of Zambia,” she said.

Ms Banda advised that no staff of at the university is allowed to collect any funds from the students.

“We are appealing to the public and all students to be alert of these scams and other related cybercrimes and also encourage you to report any suspected matter to the University or police for further action,” she said.

Ms Banda also warned people masquerading and impersonating as Chalimbana university to desist from doing so as stern action shall be taken against anyone found wanting.

“We have reported and working with relevant security wings to ensure that we bring culprits to book. Chalimbana University is established on a set of values that includes integrity, good morals and ethical standards therefore, would like to disassociate ourselves from these illegal acts,” she said.
