Chililabomwe Council stopped a wedding reception

By CHINOYI CHIPULU
The Chililabombwe Municipal Council in conjunction with police on Saturday halted a wedding reception for failure to adhere to Government’s directive on social gathering.

The event attracted over 50 people which is against the directive.

According to a statement issued by CMC assistant Public Relations Manager Evelyn Mulenga the joint team peacefully dispersed the gathering and clearly explained to the organisers the Government’s directive.

“CMC Health Inspectors on saturday disbanded a wedding reception of more than 50 guests in a joint operation with state police,” she said.

Ms Mulenga said the the local authority will continue working in collaboration with police to ensure Covid19 guidelines are adhered and that no social gathering are held.

“Council will continue taking action against people who deliberately and selfishly ignore the rules and put themselves and others at risk,” she said.

Last week, Government directed local authorities to suspend the issuance of permits of weddings, birthday parties, kitchen parties, Chilanga Mulilo, conferences, workshops and other gatherings of such nature.

The suspension came in the wake of escalating coronavirus cases in the last few days.
