Minister of Local Government and Housing Charles Banda says Chililabombwe Municipal Council is the only council that is up to date with paying it workers.
Speaking when he inspected infrastructure development in Chililabombwe which have been undertaken the Council, Dr Banda said Chililabombwe council has ventures that is helping it to source funds on its own capacity.
He said councils have opportunities to raise fund through various means and Chililabombwe council is doing that.
“The truck stop venture is a good project that will allow the council to realize resources from there. The council is doing everything possible to ensure that service deliver is implemented and achieved.
“I’m impressed with the effort that are been implemented by Chililabombwe council management together with the District Commissioner’s office. This is the rain season and I’m happy that the council is working on the drainages. My fear when I was coming here were drainages but now the fear is gone because the council is doing everything possible to put everything in place,” he said.
He said Chililabombwe council has proven to be innovative with effort being put in place.
Dr Banda said the Council is putting effort that it becomes a self-sustaining thereby reducing on cries for salaries.
He has encouraged the council to keep up with the good work.
“I implore other Councils to emulate Chililabombwe Council. The Ministry will help in the challenges that the council is facing. The council is responsible for collecting revenue not any other as the case which is now in court. Local authorities should be effective to in order to deliver
“Government want to see order and sanity at the border once everything done,” he said.
And Chililabombwe Mayor Christabel Mulala said despite the strides made, the district was lacking a district hospital and the skills training centre which have taken long to complete.
Ms Mulala said the Council is doing its best to ensure service delivery to the people
She appealed to minister for help where the council may fail.
