Chililabombwe MP calls for construction of 3 washed away bridges

By ALICE NACHILEMBE
Chililabombwe Member of Parliament Paul Kabuswe has called for the immediate re-construction of Ikonkola Bridge which was washed away by heavy rains last week.

Mr Kabuswe said that this is a source of concern because the area has no proper crossing point and the safety of the people especially school going children is compromised.

He also said that apart from Ikonkola bridge the district has two more bridges that the Local Authority needs to look into.

The MP who is also Mines and Mineral Development Minister has assured residents of Chimfushi Village that Government will not wait for the end of rainy season to reconstruct Ikonkola Bridge and the two others in Kakoso and Kawama.

Mr Kabuswe said that works by the Council will commence this week using funds for disasters under CDF which is readily available.

And Chief Chilimina expressed gratitude towards the quick response by Government over the washed away bridge.

Chief Chilimina thanked Government leadership for coming to their aid at the most critical time.

The MP visited the area over the weekend and he was accompanied by District commissioner, Chililabombwe Mayor, the Town Clerk , Chief Chilimina and other officials.
