Chililabombwe marketeers, Taxi drivers in cool cash from MP

Chililabombwe Member of Parliament Richard Musukuwa has dished out K65, 000 cool cash to marketeers and Taxi drivers.

The money is an empowerment to the marketeers who Mr Musukwa promised during the campaigns.

Speaking when he handed over the money, Mr Musukwa said he would support all organized and registered groups that are working as self-employed.

Addressing marketeers first at Mine market, Mr Musukwa who is also Mines Minister said he will only work with marketeers working from designated locations and will not support vendors.

“I’m not a politician of lies but who tells the truth. And the truth is that I will not support disorganization by supporting vendors on the street who are hijacking business from marketeers in the markets. If you need to be part of the empowerment, then go into the market and join the committee.

“To the market committees this money I’m giving you is not for sharing but an empowerment. This means that you will deposit this cash and members will be allowed to borrow and terms of repayment will be set by the committee. Ensure that the money is not depleted at once because you may be faced with a challenge like funeral,” he said.

He also advised marketeers to be contributing a monthly subscription of K10 to the committee to make it viable and sustainable.

He donated K20, 000 cash to marketeers at Mine market, another K10, 000 for Taxi drivers at the rank of the market, another K10, 000 for market rehabilitation and K5, 000 for five founding marketeers at Mine market.

Mvula Ward PF Councillor Lesly Ngoma said the market was founded in 1948 by ZCCM and was later handed over to Chililabombwe Municipal Council.

Mr Ngoma said the market has 600 marketeers.

The MP later proceeded to Kalukungu Second Class Area market where he donated another K20, 000 to marketeers at that market.

Sadly Taxi drivers at that market’s rank could not benefit from the MPs’ empowerment because they don’t have a bank account.

“I don’t have money to distribute to individuals, hence am only giving mobilized and organized groups that shall take account of the money given. Even these that I have given, I would need to see a deposit slip tomorrow at my office without which I will unleash police on you,” he said.

And Kalukungu market Chairperson Lucy Chanda thanked the MP after she received what she had earlier requested for.

MS Chanda said the market has about 350 traders.
