Chililabombwe DC warns suspecting cadres collecting levies at Kasumbalesa

Chililabombwe District Commissioner Precious Njekwa has warned unscrupulous people to stop collecting levies from traders in Kasumbalesa which is against the law.
Some suspected political party cadres are allegedly collecting levies at Kasumbalesa border.
Ms Njekwa said Government has received a number of complaints regarding illegal levying at the boarder hence the local authority and other stakeholders should intervene.
This came to light when Ms Njekwa held a meeting with various stakeholders on Wednesday to discuss issues pertaining to the collection of levies at Kasumbalesa.
Chililabombwe Mayor Lucky Sichone and Town Clerk Jovax Ngoma were also in attendance.
“I want to cautioned that Government will not spare any individual or groups collecting levies from traders other than the local authority. The Local authority is the only institution mandated to collect Levies,” she said.
She said there is urgent need to restore sanity in Kasumbalesa and ensure people work without any harassment.
Ms Njekwa has since urged the council to work with the security wings in the district to address issues of the makeshift structures and mushrooming associations at the boarder.
