Chililabombwe Municipal Council (CMC) has warned traders in the district against selling food stuffs that is not fit for consumption to the public.
CMC Assistant Public Relations Manager Evelyn Mulenga said selling decomposed food is against the law and those found wanting will be prosecuted.
This came to light after the Local Authority fined a Kasumbalesa based butchery and seized 183 Kgs of meat upon discovering that it was stale and unfit for human consumption.
“CMC would like to sound a warning to business owners selling stale food to members of the public. Selling of decomposed food is contrary to the Food Safety Act number 7 of 2019 and all those found wanting will be prosecuted,” she said.
She said the Local Authority places great importance in safeguarding the lives of residents and ensuring that all businesses operate in a conducive environment.
