Chililabombwe Municipal Council (CMC) has warned residents against keeping livestock in residential areas as it is against the Public Health Act.
CMC Assistant Public Relations Manager Evelyn Mulenga said keeping of livestock in residential areas is prohibited and punishable.
Ms Mulenga advised residents to refrain from doing so as the local authority will not spare anyone found wanting.
” The Council has noticed with concern the number of residents rearing livestock such as goats, pigs, cows and sheep among others at residential houses.
“Council therefore wishes to warn members of the public keeping livestock at their residences to refrain from doing so as the municipality will not spare anyone found wanting,” Ms Mulenga noted in a statement released.
She said engaging in such activity is contrary to the requirements of the Public Health Act Cap 295 and Local Government Act No 2 of 2019 of the laws of Zambia.
“In view of the gravity of Health Nuisances arising from rearing of livestock in residential areas and pursuant, thereof to section 64, 67 and 68 of the Public Health Act Cap 295 of the Laws of Zambia, residents are hereby required to remove all livestock from residential premises,” she said.
