Chililabombwe Council seizes stale fish worth K349, 950

Chililabombwe Municipal Council has seized 2, 333 X 12kg boxes of stale horse mackerel fish worth K349, 950 from Onime Logistics, a trucking company from Namibia.

CMC Assistant Public Relations Manager Chilufya Chungu said this was after a complaint from a fish trader.

A physical inspection was conducted by Health Inspectors from the Council in Kasumbalesa involving truck registration number CK40KV/FHY037.

Ms Chuungu said the inspection revealed that the named truck from Namibia en-route to Kasumbalesa had developed some faults along the way resulting into malfunctioning of the refrigeration unit.

She said the breakage of the cold chain resulted into the fish becoming stale and unfit for human consumption.

Ms Chuungu said this contravened the food and drugs act cap 303 and the public health act cap 295.

“We wish to advise the general public to be cautious when they are making purchases and report any unfair trading practices to the relevant authorities,” she said.

She said Council has further warn all traders who are in the habit of selling unwholesome goods to desist from such trade practices as they risk being prosecuted.

The stale fish has since been disposed off.
