The Chililabombwe Municipal Council has dismissed recent social media reports claiming that the local authority awarded grants to 23 cooperatives that did not apply for funding.
According to the CMC Assistant Public Relations Manager Nambela Kyombela , said these reports are false and do not reflect their procedures and CDF guidelines for allocating funds.
Ms Kyombela said the controversy stems from a report by the Auditor General, which cited the council for awarding grants totaling K483, 480 to 23 cooperatives in April 2023.
She explained that these cooperatives were part of the 189 clubs and groups that submitted applications for grants.
“Out of these, 112 were successful applicants in various sectors such as block making, village banking, and fish farming, and gardening.
The council assures the public that no grants or loans were awarded to cooperatives or clubs that did not apply. They also urge cooperatives to ensure that they submit complete and accurate information during the application process to avoid any issues,” she said.
