Community Development and Social Service Minister Doreen Mwamba says Government through her Ministry is working on setting up child trafficking desks at all entry points across the country.
She said this is to curb the escalating numbers of child trafficking cases in the country.
Ms Mwamba said the increasing levels of child trafficking is becoming a serious concern to Government.
She said the Ministry has received a lot of child trafficking cases in the recent past especially from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Somalia as well as other border entry points.
The Minister said this when she visited a home of safety in Chipata District where she was informed that the home was accommodating some child victims of trafficking from Congo.
“There is need to tighten up our borders, how are children finding themselves in Chipata from Congo, when we have a lot of check points in Zambia?” she said.
The Minister also expressed concern over the increasing number of teenage pregnancies in Eastern Province.
She pointed out long distances in accessing school facilities by the girls as one of the major contributing factors to the vice.
She however assured that Government is addressing the issue and will ensure more schools are built in the places where children walk long distances to get to school.
