Child Marriages worries ZNMGD

By IREEN MULENGA
The Zambia National Men’s Network for Gender and Development is concerned with the increasing number of school girls dropping out of school due to child marriage.

Network National Coordinator Nelson Banda said Child marriage is affecting girls in remote areas especially Shapenda and Lunga communities of Kasempa district.

“Less than a year since the Men’s network was formed, we have taken a step forward to  sensitizing Communities about the  implications of Child Marriages, so far we have done a lot and we have paid a curtesy  call to chief Kasempa and informed him about the men’s network,”  he said.

He said chief Kasempa is happy and in full support of the program.

The Kasempa Men’s Network chapter in the district is since engaging different stakeholders such as the Council, the Ministry of Education and traditional leaders to come on board and support the newly formed network to conduct sensitization activities against early marriage.
