Chief Justice Mumba Malila Advocates Constitutional Court Reconfiguration for Enhanced Judicial Efficiency.

In a noteworthy address delivered today in Lusaka during the commemoration of the Supreme Court’s Golden Jubilee, Chief Justice Mumba Malila has put forth a crucial proposition for the realignment of the Constitutional Court. His recommendation aims to streamline and optimize Zambia’s judicial system.

Justice Malila’s incisive analysis revealed that the current co-equal status of the Constitutional Court alongside the Supreme Court has inadvertently resulted in a suboptimal utilization of judicial resources. This situation has led to the underutilization of certain Supreme Court judges who find themselves handling fewer appeal cases.

The event, conducted under the overarching theme of “Empowering the Next Generation of Justice Leaders,” also witnessed Speaker of the National Assembly, Nelly Mutti, advocating for the reinstatement of the Ministry of Gender. Her proposal is rooted in the objective of fostering gender equality across influential positions throughout the nation.

Furthermore, Mwangala Zaloumis, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), has astutely proposed the reform of the Political Parties’ Act. This reform, with its tailored provisions, aims to bolster the participation of women in the political landscape, addressing long-standing disparities.

In an acknowledgment of these advancements, former Electoral Commission of Zambia Chairperson Florence Mumba commended the judiciary for making considerable strides in achieving authentic female representation within decision-making positions.
