Riverside Ward Councillor Chando Mbao has been elected as the new Kitwe Deputy Mayor after getting 19 votes.
The Deputy Mayor elections took place in the council Chambers with 27 councilors present at the elections.
Former Deputy Mayor Evaristo Chilufya decided not to recontest his sit so as to concentrate on his other positions among them as PF Kitwe District Chairperson.
Kitwe Town Clerk Mbulo Seki who was the Returning Officer declared Mr Mbao as dully elected of the elections where Kitwe Mayor Christopher Kangombe declared interest by refusing to take part in the voting exercise.
The polls were contested by Kawama ward Councillor Bonny Kaongo who only managed to get seven votes.
Mr Mbao was later sworn into office by Kitwe Magistrate Dominic Lesa.
In his affirmation Mr Mbao promised to serve the public and the office of the Mayor diligently without malice.
And in his interview with Journalists, he said he will be a link between the office of the Town Clerk and the Mayor as he will ensure that he is the bridge between the offices and the councilors.
He said he will help the local authority to achieve its mandate in ensuring service delivering is fulfilled in the city.
