The College of Bishops of the Christian Coalition has appealed to Government to consider including a provision that allows for persons with disabilities to register as one the census questionnaire.

And the Coalition’s President Charles Mwape also commended Government for announcing the census planned for late this year.

Professor Charles Mwape said the questionnaire should be able to indicate how many persons with disabilities are in the country, as well as those that work and are in various universities, colleges and schools.

“This will help stakeholders and organizations in the disability movements and Government will have the number to plan for the welfare of people living with disabilities exactly, as it promised through the ministry of community that this administration is committed in ensuring that the plights of people living with disabilities are addressed,” he said.

Professor Mwape said that it is important for country to know how many people live with disabilities so that they are not left out.

Recently, Government through the Minister of Finance and National Planning, Situmbeko Musokotwane issued a Statutory Instrument to gazette the period August, 18 2022 to September, 14 2022 as the official dates for the country to undertake the 6th National Census of Population and Housing.

The statement said that the upcoming CPH will adopt the Computer-Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI) technique.
