The Independent Broadcasting Authority has called on all Broadcasting Stations to commemorate the International Children’s Day of Broadcasting (ICDB), which will be commemorated on Sunday, March 6, 2022.
IBA Director General Josephine Mapoma says broadcasting stations should commemorate this day by producing and airing quality programming about and for children.
Ms Mapoma said that the involvement of children in broadcasting must not be a one-off event but go beyond ICDB in order to allow for diverse content.
She said the IBA Law has provided for the protection of the integrity of minors.
Ms Mapoma said all stations to play a role in promoting good mental health, and protecting children’s rights.
“The Standard Operating Procedures for Broadcasting in Zambia require broadcasting stations to take reasonable steps to protect children by appropriate scheduling of programs,’’ she said.
This year’s ICDB will be celebrated under the theme “End violence against children through safe media”.
