CDF increment commended

By MAIMBO MWEEMBA
The College of Bishops of the Christian Coalition of Zambia has commended government for increasing the Constituency Development Funds (CDF) from 1.6 million to 25.7 million kwacha.

The Coalition’s President Charles Mwape says that this is a clear indication that the UPND were not politicking but meant to deliver to the Zambians

Professor Mwape said that the increased CDF is giving the power back to the people by allowing them decide how the CDF will be used.

He has therefore called upon all parliamentarians to set aside partisan politics and ensure that the CDF is utilized accordingly.

However, Professor Mwape said that in as such as scrapping off school fees for learners is welcome, the removal of school fees will mount pressure on public schools.

“The coalition has appealed to the UPND administration to introduce a quarterly system of funding, were schools are given grants to allow them plan and continue the provision of quality education thereby ensuring that quality education is not compromised as the recruitment of the 30,000 teachers will address the pupil teacher ratio, which has highly compromised quality education,” he said.

Professor Mwape said that if this done, access to free education will be actualized and every Zambian child will have quality education.
