The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) in partnership with the Mungwi Municipal Council have seized assorted goods in a joint inspection 27 trading premises at Nseluka’s Central Business District (CBD) in Kasama.
The seized items which include Beauty Care Papaya, Boom Washing Powder as well as Coca-Cola and Fanta carbonated drinks were expired while some were found to have passed their best before dates.
CCPC Senior Public Relations Officer Namukolo Kasumpa said the Commission together with Mungwi Council Inspectors collected and destroyed the expired products.
Ms Kasumpa said the product did not meet the mandatory product information and safety standards set by the Competition and Consumer Protection Act.
She said the Commission notes that out of 27 trading premises inspected in Mungwi district, 22 did not engage in any unfair trading practice signifying 81.5 percent compliance with the law.
“The Commission wishes to urge all traders and business enterprises to continue abiding by the law for enhancement of consumer protection in Zambia,” she said.
