CBU STUDENTS RUN AMOCK, AFTER TWO (2) OTHER STUDENTS WERE KILLED

Two students from Copperbelt University have died after they were hit by a moving vehicle last night.

This made students to run amock and blocked CBU gate along Jambo drive road after information reached them that three male students have been hit by a moving vehicle and have all died. This occurred between June 25, 2023 at 22:30 hours and June 26, 2023 at 00:20 hours as the information did not seat well with them as they run amock by blocking Jambo drive road with big stones and setting up of fire.

Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweembe who confirmed the development in a statement said that they went on to loot the shop which is opposite the main gate and the other one which is inside the campus.

Mr Mweemba said that some mobile money booths near the main gate were also burnt in the process. He said they only dispersed after police officers fired some tear smokes on them.

“It was at this time when the learners saw police presence went back in the campus. The value of property looted is not yet known” he said.

Mr Mweemba said facts of the matter are that the vehicle whose details is not yet known but being driven by Easter Aponde 26, currently in detention at Nkana East Police Station hit 3 male students of CBU.

He said one student identified as Thabo Mumbi 21 other details not known died on the spot while Josphate Muyambwa 22 died at the hospital and the other who’s not yet identified is admitted in Kitwe teaching hospital and update on the condition to be given later.

The situation is currently calm and being monitored.
