Cabinet has approved the introduction of a bill in parliament to strengthen the mandate of the Human Rights Commission -HRC.
The bill was approved during a Cabinet Meeting held on Monday, April 15, 2019.
Chief Government Spokesperson Dora Siliya says the bill provides for the re-definition of the functions and composition of the Human Rights Commission.
Ms Siliya who is also Information and Broadcasting Services Minister says the bill will also facilitate the replacement of the Human Rights Commission Act Number 39 of 1996.
Meanwhile Ms. Siliya says Cabinet has also approved three other bills namely the Accounts Repeal bill, Food Safety-bill -2019 and National Employment and Labour Market Policy bill.
She said that the Accounts Repeal bill will pave way for the repeal of the Accountants Act of 2008 to mitigate the occurrence of professional misconduct by accountants and provide for a well-regulated Accountancy profession.
And Ms Siliya said the Food Safety-bill of 2019 among other objectives provides for the protection of the public against health hazards and fraud in the manufacture, sale and use of food.
On the other hand, the National Employment and Labour Market Policy bill aims at supporting inclusive economic growth and development through promotion of gainful and decent work in all sectors.
