Zambia Under-20 assistant coach Charles Bwale says the team will not sit on its laurels after having recording a significant 2-0 away first leg result against Rwanda in the second round of the Niger 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
And FAZ President Andrew Kamanga who was in Kigali congratulated the team for their first leg win urging them to finish off the job in Lusaka.
Bwale told FAZfootball.com from Kigali that Zambia will approach the second leg in Lusaka as fiercely as they did with the first match that saw Francisco Mwepu bag a brace to give the African champions a healthy first leg lead.
“I think today’s game is water under the bridge and we cannot sit back since we have won 2-0 because we have the second leg which is in Lusaka,” he said.
“We need to prepare well because we have seen the weaknesses and strengths of Rwanda. The game in Lusaka is a different ball game so we will not sit and say we have won.”
Meanwhile Kamanga said the team should not get carried away with the 2-0 win but build on their strong start.
“It was your show, but you still have to play the next game. Let us not relent we have a lot of work, there are a lot of areas we need to improve, we can only continue building, this is a very good result,” he said.
“It does not put you under a lot of pressure when you play the return game. On behalf of the executive I can only congratulate you and encourage you to continue working hard.”
Zambia will host Rwanda on Saturday in Lusaka with the winner over two legs facing either Sudan or Burundi in the final qualifying round.
Mwepu scored in each half to seal victory for Zambia.
