Buses and taxi owners association of Zambia (BTOAZ) has called on the drivers to take the COVID-19 guidelines seriously to reduce the spread of the virus.

BTOAZ Chairperson Amis Daudi said the threat of COVID-19 is real and the spread of the virus is going to affect everyone if they do not follow the guidelines properly.

“Both passengers and car owners are responsible to ensure that COVID-19 measures are observed accordingly adding that passengers should continue going to the station wearing masks and when in the station they must always sanitize themselves,” he said.

Mr Daudi said drivers have a responsibility to protect the public and themselves from this pandemic hence they should ensure that the guidelines are religiously followed.

He said buses and Taxi owners must by all means move with hand sanitizers and not allow anyone to board without putting on a mask.

“The association encourages members to comply with the stipulated measures to avoid been punished by the relevant authorities as the association has no right or power to punish drivers that are not putting on face masks and cannot enforce the Ministry of Health guidelines as we do not have such powers, the association is also focusing on encouraging and educating the commuters on how to take care of themselves whenever they are using public transport,” he said.
